    Rich kids don't box...

but they do MMA, why do you think that is guys?

You always hear about how boxers come from poor backgrounds and that you'll never see a rich kid hungry enough to box or whatever but these very same rich kids do MMA, what are your thoughts on this?

I think it's due to popularity among the young etc...

The rich kids want some thrill in their lives; hence why they love MMA. They see it as reckless, violent and cool. While the poor see boxing as a way of getting out of the ******.

those rich kids have a fighter in them thats why they're hungry for some fun and thrill to prove themselves. and they've got nothing else to do. mma would be worth it. for fame. meanwhile boxing is a harder sport to get into. i mean u have to start a long way.

Dude, the only reason you see more MMA guys, and to be more specific it's the American MMAers who come from middle to upper middle-class backgrounds is because college wrestling is basically America's MMA farm system.

There is no boxing in college, well, very few colleges offer boxing(Notre Dame is one of the few that I know of).

I think the whole thinking of MMA guys being a bunch of college educated fighters is being blown out of proportion, many of the American fighters may have attended college, but, alot of 'em don't finish.

Barrera wasn't rich, he was a middle class Mexican.

Simple really. MMA requires training in martial arts disciplines like judo, wrestling, etc.
These sports are much more expensive to practice than boxing. Plus, you'd have much more luck finding a boxing gym in the ****** than a sensei.

Same reason you don't see any black people in hockey. Its a very expensive sport (all the equipment), hence mostly middle to upper-class kids get into it.

                  Of course there are exceptions.

Well rich privileged kids aren't tough enough to box ( they would cry if hit too hard ) so they pick an easy combat sport like wrestling or mma. Then they tell all their friends that they are fighters.
