I have to agree with JPW, when a fighter's health is at stake naturally he should "throw in the towel" instead of going on and possibly risky irrevecable damage. In KT case, he was clearly badly bruised and beaten both mentally and physically and it appearred that his quitting was the right thing to do.
There are many cases of fighters or their trainors stopping the fight in order to preserve the fighters well being. Example, Joe Frasier's corner halted the contest against Ali in Manilla preventing him(Frasier) from further punishment against Ali in a fight that he couldn't win. No one labeled Joe a quitter; rather a warrior.
