Did Kevin Mitchell Think He Was Better Than He Actually Was?

At time I got this impression. He was already talking about wanting become a 3 weight world champion and saying how easy he would KO Khan etc.

I thought he got quite a shock tonight.

    Thoughts?

In short... yes. He was talking about JMM and Khan when he should have been focusing on Katsidis.

I still belive Mitchell is a decent fighter and he might become a world champ some day, he will never be top p4p fighter or a superstar like Khan or Hatton but I think he can still accomplish things in boxing. And even though he got stopped I don't think he has a glass chin... Katsidis is a beast and Mitchell is still relativley unexperienced at world level. Just because you get knocked out doesn't mean you have a glass chin.

I think it is more of the case that Mitchell did not realise just how good Katsidis is. Mitchell looked a LOT smaller. I would be very interested to see what their weights were going into the ring. When you are fighting a bigger stronger man who is a pressure fighter you have your work cut out. Mitchell was doing OK untill he got tagged but a good biggun beats a good littleun and in this fight Mitchell was the littleun.

I had a bad feeling about what would happen when I first saw Mitchell beside Katsidis in the ring.

He seemed clearly a smaller man, with a finer bone structure. Katsidis is more muscular with better upper body strength.

Mitchell should have remained at super featherweight where he could have been a force to be reckoned with.

He didnt seem focused in the build up to the fight

And you need to be against someone like Katsidis

I think he thought if he could survive Prescott for 12 rounds, he'd have no problem with Katsidis.

But I don't think he'd had long enough to grow into LW to handle someone with Kat's strength.

Mitchell is still a solid fighter IMO. He has to know how to handle pressure fighters. He was moving effectively but you can tell he couldn't do it for 12 rounds. Plus Katsidis keeps coming no matter what. You have to pack a punch or have the intelligence to keep him from wanting to jump in, attack mode. Mitchell has a chin that could probably withstand Khan punches; his confidence in beating Khan is not far fetched, I'd give him a decent chance.
