Detroit Fight Fans: Vernon Paris is fighting on Shobox tonight...

I'm from Michigan and I've known about Vernon Paris for a while (as I'm sure many Detroiters, Michiganders, and hardcore fight fans have). He hasn't looked that great recently from the fights I've seen on Fox Sports Detroit and I even remember him commenting about maybe thinking about switching to MMA () but this is the type of fight I've wanted him to get in for a while.

About 3 years ago I was supposed to see him on the "Fire and Ice" card (still the only live boxing I've ever seen) at the Palace of Auburn Hills that was supposed to set-up a match between him and Lanardo Tyner, but Vernon was hurt and couldn't fight. He was there though.

Anyways, he's fighting Juan Santiago scheduled for 8 rounds on the undercard of the Dzinzurik-Dawson card. I can't remember seeing anything about this before. Did this just get added?

Didnt he just fight on that Mayweather undercard. He sure is staying pretty busy. Last fight I saw of him he was fighting a southpaw, clearly winning but still getting hit too much. He need to get with a better promoter.

Edit: I see he pulled out of that Mayweather undercard is probably why he is fighting today.

He has talent but he gets hit too much. I almost think besides a new promoter he needs a new trainer. Anytime I've seen him he's faced guys with losing records and he gets hit a lot. He still wins but he always looks like he's been in a war, which isn't a problem if you are beating elite talent, but he's outpointing journeymen with losing records. I wish him well though, and really hope he can take this fight tonight. This is now the main fight I want to see this weekend.

I am not convinced he can handle success even if he proves to be really good. He has some talent but there are so many question marks with him.

Yeah I think he has the skills but he steady wants to prove he is a dog and tough it out. He did knock out my trainer Patrick Byrd lol. I still have high hopes for Vernon tho.
