    my fantasy boxing idea

Okay, so I have been known to whine about the lack of a traditional fantasy boxing game. And with all that whining I actually started thinking about how such a thing could work and here is what I came up with:

-- Each month you would have a certain salary cap to work with, this would either be constant or determined by how you had been doing in fantasy. With this cap you could choose five or so fighters for the month, each costing a different salary. This would be good because you would have to look at matchup's for the month and be cautious who you chose. These five fighters are your source of points for the month.

-- The amount of points a fighter earned would be generated by a series of things. First would be something like ranking of the fighter that he is taking on in that bout. What this would need is that the site would need some kind of VERY extensive ranking system.

-- You would get a certain amount of points for each round won, and bonus points for things like knockdowns. Naturally draws would not get any kind of bonus, split decisions would get a small bonus, and unanimous decisions would get a larger bonus. As a result you would have to be careful not to take somebody who is fighting in the other guys home town as this could cost you.

-- If your fighter has points deducted in the fight for hitting low or excessive holding or any such stuff then you would have points deducted in fantasy. There would also be a point loss suffered for not making weight (probably a pretty sizeable one)

-- A KO would result in a combo of a few different things, the first would be a set bonus for the KO itself. Next would be bonus points for a combination of the quality of fighter it is against, and how many rounds remained in the fight. Thus a KO in the first round would be worth a little more then a KO in the the last, but perhaps not if the 1st round KO was against some bum where as the 12'th round KO was against a pound for pounder.

    SOME OTHER IDEAS:

-- Maybe there could be some kind of bonus for punch stats, that way busier fighters are worth more then guys who are not. But this would be a tough to figure out how to work it out. Also, either it could be done just as a total of points earned or in a head to head matchup against other managers and their stables of fighters like in fantasy football...

In any event, I am actually kind of interested in working to get this off the ground as it would be fun for boxing fans. Anybody who has ideas or would be interested in helping feel free to offer input!

I think it sounds like a good idea. I only skimmed most of your post and read small parts of it thoroughly, but I do fantasy football and **** like that on yahoo and it sounds like a good idea to me. It could be fun.

Yeah, I mean if they can have fantasy NASCAR (and they do, don't they?) then why not fantasy boxing?

No, no, its nothing like that. What happens is you just get a certain amount of points based on the performance of the real-life fighters that you choose for that month. Now these points for the five or so fighters add up to a total, and what I was saying is either you just have standings for each user based on how many points they use, or you go "head-to-head" with another user, and whoever has more points for the month "wins" that month, and thus gets the win on their record.
