EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: CORY SPINKS
By G. Leon
GL: Tell us about what we can expect to see from you against Corneilus "K-9" Bundradge on June 12? "I'm preparing like a dog. I'm feeling good and I'm looking forward to getting back in there and handling my business. I'm coming to St. Louis to bring my fan base back, I know they've been missing me. I'm ready to show K-9 that he done sniffed out the wrong 'gotdam' bomb."
GL: When you recaptured the title I imagine you were looking to get right back in the ring instead of hitting a long layoff..
Cory Spinks: (cutting in) "Actually it's been kind of cool because I've been in the gym and I've been around boxing getting a feel around things. It's been really good working with my conditioning coach and I know I'm going to be spectacular next month on the twelfth. Cory Spinks is coming to kick some ass.'
GL: Do you still have the desire to be the best that you had a few years ago?
CS: "Even way more than I did before. I have a lot to prove still and that's what I'm set out to do."
GL: Who's training you for this fight? I know you and Kevin split again, if that's something you'd like to comment on by all means do so.
CS: "I'm passed that stage, I have nothing to say. I'm working with Buddy McGirt, he's been wonderful. I love how things have gone these past couple of months and it's going to be a great night for me on June 12."
GL: Even though you've been a champion for the majority of the last several years, is this a do or die fight for you?
CS: "Every fight is a do or die fight for me. I'm a veteran fighter and I'm preparing myself the best way I can. I know he's supposed to have Emanuel Steward working with him. I don't give a damn who's training him. He's the one who has to get in the ring and take this ass whooping I'm fitting to give out."
GL: What are you hoping a victory on June 12 leads to?
CS: "You know what I'm hoping for. I want a big fight. I want whoever is going to generate the biggest money fight. If Mayweather and Pacquiao's little ass want to do something, all they have to do is say so. I'm from the old mentality of Marvin Hagler, I'll fight anybody. If they say they're the best I want to fight them. I'd love to tax Miguel Cotto's ass if he wins that title."
GL: Closing thoughts?
CS: "My closing thoughts is, I want to say to my fans that I've been gone for a little minute, but I'm back and I'm going to kick a little more ass than y'all used to seeing this go round."
