Hamed said in 2000: "I'm the best boxer to ever come out of Britain. I'm Sheffield's favourite son, the best boxer that Sheffield could ever wish to lay eyes on, and, infact, nobody else even comes close. It was me who made Brendan Ingle's camp popular, and I'm making a lot of people jealous of where I am. If you watch any Mexican or any American or anybody else, nobody has a style like me - I'm extraordinary and totally different to anybody else. I'm blessed from God man, what can I say? I'm the special one. I believe that I am already better than Muhammad Ali because he could only fight orthodox, where I can fight just as good as either orthodox or southpaw."
Herol's response: "Naseem should remember where he came from, Brendan Ingle created him. He came to Brendan at 7 years old, it was Brendan who made him. He's not exactly setting the world alight right now in my opinion, he's relying on one-punch power. He's no Muhammad Ali, and there have been plenty of good fighters coming out of Sheffield so that's pretty offensive, do you know what I mean? He hasn't shown the type of form he did under Brendan when he got rid of Robinson and Johnson. I remember when Naseem was about 15, and we had Chris Eubank over here and I was sparring him. I think Chris was the WBC Interim champ, I was mandatory for the WBC title. Naseem knew that we were good fighters and looked on in envy, he'd hang around us and study us while we sparring. Then, after our sparring sessions, Naseem would get into the ring and try to copy the way that we moved. We were his hero's, I think he just admired the way we moved, every move we made he tried to copy. Before that he was an orthodox fighter but because I was a southpaw he decided to switch up to be like me. Chris used to leap over the rope before his fights, Naseem copied him. Naseem copied Chris' movements in the ring too. People think that Brendan learns his fighters to fight with their hands low and the awkward style, but really it was a style that originated from me and I was copied. Brendan teaches his fighters the basics, he has them practice the basics over and over. But Naseem moulded himself into a hybrid mixture of Herol Graham and Chris Eubank, with his party boy image on top of that."
