    mayweather vs dlh

why did mayweather vs delahoya do incredibly more ppv buys than any other fight, considering what is being said about 1.4M buys being the second highest non heavyweight fight and may vs dlh did 2.4M which is just a crazy figure. I was younger and did not follow boxing that closely then, can someone fill me in why that fight was so popular that it sold more than any other fight in history?

was it the undercard, or the trash talk?

Mayweather killed himself in that fight by being boring.
    • His next PPV was much lower: 925k vs Hatton where he won by KO
    • The fans saw that and the Marquez fight did a little better with 1 million
    • Now the Mosley fight did even better than the Marquez fight with 1.4 million

He is steadily working his way back to the 2 million mark.

i think it did 2.5 mill but anyway

de la hoya was the biggest draw in the sport plus they had for the first time a 24/7 series to hype it up
mayweather obviously undefeated this was his big moment in the spotlight against a fighter that is used to the bright lights of vegas

plus it was the golden boy oscar against the brash talking mayweather they had a good angle to sell the fight plus both were probably the two biggest names in the sport at the time

mayweather won and took oscar's place as the face of boxing at least until he retired and pacman's ascension in the sport was beginning

best way i can sum it up

Timing is everything. It was before the HBO 24/7 series became cliched, and it was in a much better economy.

Mayweather did an awesome job of marketing that fight in the 24/7. The hype for that fight was crazy. Even my non-boxing buddies were talking about it. And I'm in the UK.

Mayweather won't see two million again unless he fights Pacquiao. Right now I can't think of anyone he can fight to even get the Mosley numbers.

Because ESPN was all over that fight and not hardly at all with the Mosley fight. It was being build as one of the biggest boxing fights in like 20years or something like that.

Not to mention it was freakin Oscar De La Hoya who is a PPV cash cow. And Mosley just really isn't which is ashamed.
