It's not about sounding better than you are. I'm not a scientist and neither do I try and speak like one but I'm going to talk with correct grammar in an interview and talk slang amongst my friends and family. Though we "personally" may not give a damn what people think about us, you should want to speak with some sense when you know the world will be listening in on an interview.
