Why does Pacquiao let people hit him

For whatever reason Pac is doing it. I know its risky and unecessary.i didnt say anything about training to tolerate pain. thats cool n all, but that fits martial arts more than it does boxing. in boxing you cannot train yourself to not get knocked out. u cant train your neck...u can increase your neck muscles but that only does so much. my point is, its ****** to allow yoursef to be hit in the head, no matter how tough you are. your brain gets rattled regardless, thats wat causes brain damage and thats what causes a person to get knocked out in most instances. its just a bad habit to let someone hit u, one that manny may suffer for if he keeps it up.Comment

Why do some people find it so hard to believe a fighter would intentionally take some punishment?
Of course it happens, it's a mentality of a warrior just enjoying being in the brawl, wanting to break they're opponent down mentally not only by battering them, but showing they can take theyre shots and carry on as determined.
Your gona get hit, so in a way, why not take a couple on purpose to at least make your opponent think twice about doing it again if they don't hurt you and you getting hurt more. It'll alter they're mentality and tactics in your favour and could actually lead to you getting hit less later in the fight when they don't bother with power shots, or it makes them brawl and miss.
Ali intentially took some punishment with the rope a dope, and Pacman definitely did intentially take some shots from Cotto, as much as anything to show Cotto there was little point in trying for the KO, show he was the harder man, and to test himself.Last edited by Kris Silver; 05-09-2010, 07:02 PM.Comment

ali, didnt leave his face open. if he had, he would have undoubtedly been knocked out. he did what he did because he had no choice. u cant at all compare that to pac "intentionally" letting ppl hit his face. Why do some people find it so hard to believe a fighter would intentionally take some punishment?

I agree with that. IMO, he never planned to let Cotto hit his face. But it speaks more of Cotto's offense. Pac was intentionally testing Cotto's power but I doubt he wants to get hit in the face. Lolz.
An interview from GQ.
---------------------------------
Hours after Pacquiao's twelfth-round win by technical knockout, Joson recalled Pacquiao's words. Manny was curious. So curious, Joson realized, that even with his place in boxing history and tens of millions of dollars in the balance, Pacquiao decided to violate Roach's fight plan.
"I wanted to feel his power," Pacquiao tells me on the plane ride. The question seems to discomfit him. Too private? His answer, spoken with lowered eyes, feels less an explanation than an admission. "I just needed to know. For myself."

its the risk he takes in order to unload his offense. thats why people consider his style mexican because he'll take punches to give some in return.Comment

He deployed a tactic knowing he was going to take shots to the face.
I know what your saying but that's intentional effectively.
Yes Pacman can be more blatant, but ultimately he also is just choosing to be dangerous to be likely to take shots. A couple of times at most, he's actually literally allowed someone to hit him.
It's choosing to knowingly get hit more, in order to gain and be able to hit your opponent more in return.Comment

I agree with this. You are a moron clearly... so just because its your favorite fighter he is supposed to do it? I guess if a football player gets tackled, he did it on purpose right?
Stop with that bull****, letting him hit him... Manny has an agressive style, getting caught is part of the territory. Hitting his gloves together after getting tagged is just him signalling that hes okay, like when Floyd smiled after JMM hit him, it wasn't because he let him hit him... it was just that he was aware a good shot got through and was showing his opponent that its done nothing to him.
Your acting like Manny is some god with the best defense out there and that the only reason he gets hit is because he lets them, thats bull****... its merely a little flaw he has that could do with tightening, it comes with the territory of being an aggressive fighter, cause they tend to stand infront of there opponent more.Comment

manny getting hit makes his fight more exciting.you watch him in sparring, he only get's hit when he stands there and lets people hit him.
Against Cotto he couldn't have been hit that much if he didn't stand there and eat uppercuts. Same with Clottey.
In the Oscar fight he actually didn't want to get hit at all, moving up from LW (sfw just a bit before) and he was hardly eating any shots at all as he would leap out of range before anyone could do anything.
I don't like how he stands there and eats uppercuts..it's like he get's a kick out of proving a point.
In that video of him sparring he's just standing there with a middleweight and letting him hit him.Comment
