Is bad preparation a valid excuse for losing a fight?

A lot of fighters use excuses like being weight drained, overtraining etc for losing fights, but is it a valid reason? Toney kept on going on about being weight drained during his fight with Jones, but it was his own fault and he had no one to blame but himself. It really was a matter of preparation and the guy who prepared properly won and that is the way it always should be.

    Anyone here agree or disagree?

No. It's a fighter's job to be ready mentally and physically. It's his fault alone if he isn't.

I agree, its just that everytime a fighter loses than its because he was drained etc. No one forced Oscar to make 147 lbs and he only had himself to blame for going into the Pac fight in that condition.

No....it doesn't take away from the win of the guy who won...

If not everyone could claim they didn't prepare properly or didn't have enough time...

To me, if your willing to get in the ring I don't wanna hear any excuses why you lost...

Now if your washed up or past prime that might affect the win but glove/ring size, making weight, etc. aren't valid excuses...

Exactly, but people try to do it all the time, especially on this forum.

                In my opinion, no.

As a pro fighter, it's your job ( and your trainers) to be prepared for a fight physically and mentally.

I agree, if Toney had knocked out Jones in the first round then I dont think he would of even mentioned being drained.
