do proven champs get more slack from referees

just as an example would it take longer for a fight to be stopped by tko for floyd mayweather jr compared to someone else in his division less proven like saul alvarez or andre berto?

Absolutely, the bigger hometown name will get favourable treatment.

It's the same in any sport, Manchester United are well used to getting the 'luck' with refereeing decisions.

Yes, Refs usually are more hesitant to stop a big fight when a fighter is in trouble.

Man I like Joe Cortez but he shows his favourtism or I guess I should say its very obvious, now Kenny Bayless that guy is to damn involved in high profile fights which is why I love Steve Smoger. He could have stopped Kelly Pavlik in the 2nd round of but he let him get his senses back and continue, he should the same respect for Jermain Taylor, but he was sleep standing up then sleep in the corner lol

I think Hopkins specifically gets extra slack in terms of fouls because its expected of him so if refs don't see anything too extreme or out of the ordinary from him they let alot go when he fights.

Its not ok but its something I noticed.
