Comments Thread For: Sergio Martinez: I'll Fight Mayweather After Pavlik's Chance

WBO/WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez is willing to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., if the fight comes along, but it would have to happen after a rematch with Kelly Pavlik. Last month in Atlantic City Martinez won a unanimous decision over Pavlik to capture the titles. There was an immediate rematch clause in the contract. Until Pavlik makes a decision on the rematch, Martinez has to assume that Pavlik will be the next fight. After last Saturday's win over Shane Mosley, Mayweather mentioned a move to middleweight to challenge Martinez as a "possible" option if a fight with Manny Pacquiao doesn't happen. If Pavlik wanting to fight Martinez above 160 is true, then chances are the Pavlik rematch won't happen.

What did Pavliks contract say if he lost? Did it say the fight would be made at 164 then? If so Martinez is truly ****ed.

Also, I'd like to see Martinez/Pavlik again. It was an exciting fight, and it wasn't one-sided. But then again Pavlik was also the much bigger guy in the ring which is probably one of the reasons it wasn't one sided. I forget how I had the scoring but if I remember correctly Martinez did great in the early rounds, Pavlik did good in the middle rounds, and Martinez finished up the fight late on impressive note.

Most people had it scored 8-4.

Do you think Pavlik coming in heavy for the fight benefited him or do you think it slowed him down?

Yea i agree, plus many things dont make sense...why is it gonna be a MW fight if 154 is martinez optimal weight and is also a 2 weight class jump for floyd? It said its not for the belts so why 160? This would be a great fight but i just dont see it happening
