The whole quote is ignorant of the sport of boxing IMO.

Its not about enjoying the infliction of pain, boxers rarely show they are in pain.
But a brutal war is an illustration of one mans will over another. If there is blood it adds to the uphill challenge.
Most people cant personally relate to watching the skill of Floyd or Jones, but everyone can relate to fighting back as hard as you can, as seen in Chavez - Taylor or Gatti- Ward.

Its about over coming adversity. Not sadism.

It's about skill and will, determination to win. I don't have anything against the violence but it is the competition and the risk that is most important. This sport is one of the greatest sports ever because of the price it makes the participants pay. It separates the boys from the men. You have to be willing to risk everything to get to the top and stay there.

I could be considered a casual boxing fan, as I am almost 30 and just started to seriously watch boxing about 3 years ago, I think its something natural that the first thing that hook you up in boxing are the wars and the drama, and as you are watching more and different kind of fights you learn how to appreciate the sport.

Human beings are an innately violent and war like creature, world history proves this conclusively. Its nothing to be ashamed of its just our nature.

how is this a secret.. i personally like the boxer type i apreciate it yes. i grew up with oscar de la hoya and those war type of fights.in 2006 how ever i saw guzman have a huge fight in dr and his style got my attention as before him i had not seen someone with that style.. hands down bobbin and weaving catlike reflexes and great handspeed.. i enjoyed watching that style so when i saw other boxers do it i wasnt really bothered by it.
