I'm surprised that the contract carries over to MMA. I thought that Mayorga switched over to MMA temporarily because he couldn't get fights in boxing under DKP and that the fight with Thomas was all set to go, with the press conference, promotion and everything. I guess not.

Don King may be old but he knows when there is money jar he can get his sneaky fingers into.

He pulled out of the Angulo fight, I don't believe he couldn't get any fights in Boxing. Being under DKP it's no surprise he's been on the shelf for so long.

That's what I meant. DKP don't actively match-up their fighters and I believe that's why Mayorga wanted out of his contract. Don King has made him a lot of money by putting him in big fights but it seems like he has run out of that money which is why he is trying to transfer into MMA as he can't box for the moment.

I was actually looking forward to his fight with Din Thomas, oh well.

I don't think it's really clear how and to what extent a boxing contract would apply to MMA. Actually, the WBC pulled the same **** with Injin Chi a few years back when he attempted to make a switch to MMA. Chi ended up having 1 fight in K-1 kickboxing before the WBC got involved, and never fought again, period.

This is a case of Don King trying to essentially strongarm a relatively small MMA promotion with the threat of legal action. The threat presented seems to have more so to do with the potential cost of a lawsuit more so than any actual points having to do with law itself.
