Cotto defeated Mosely before being brutalized by Margarito, and before being the damaged goods he now is. Even if that weren't the case, that fight was close and could have gone either way.

Mosely was coming off the biggest win in his career, and was the undisputed WW champ. Before the scheduled Mayweather fight, everyone was predicting that he'd knock Andre Berto out, a youthful, talented, prime, fighter.

JMM, according to the majority of experts, historians, and analyst, had beaten Pac the year prior. In both Pacquiao bouts, JMM landed more punches and won more rounds. He staggered and bloodied Pac in their second fight.

This same JMM had taken Pac to hell and back the year prior, and according to most journalist, experts, and historians, won the second bout against Pacquiao. Also, people seem to forget that it was JMM that called out Mayweather, due to the fact that Pac wouldn't fight him a third time. It wasn't the other way around.

I guess the main difference between Mayweather and Pac is that Floyd fights opponents when they are at the top, while Pac waits until after they suffer a loss and then fights them. Even if the quality of the opponents seems similar, Floyd fights them when their reputation/ranking is at it's highest so he ends up getting more credit for the wins.

Aside from that the other difference would be that Pac wasn't that good until the last 5 fights, whereas Mayweather was more consistently good earlier in his career. Although P4P ranking is supposed to be more about current abilities than resume, people haven't completely forgotten what the fighters did earlier in their careers.

No, the reason why Mosely was rated higher than Cotto was because Mosely dominated the man that snatched away Cotto's spirit. Cotto beating Pac wouldn't have done much of anything in regard to unseating Mosely was the #1 WW.

hmm this is questionable if cotto beat pac he wont be ranked higher than mosley after two winning streak from clottey and PAC?
