GL: After hearing the news of Maidana pulling out of the Bradley fight, I imagine you got a few things you like to get off your chest. Is there anything you'd like to say? "Obviously this is an interesting situation going on here. Mr Bradley now finds himself without an opponent and we have no opponent. He's claiming to be the best 140 pounder in the world and we feel that Devon is the best 140 pounder in the world, being that Devon is the only unified champion in the division. But the difference between the Bradley camp and the Alexander camp is Team Alexander is ready to show and prove to the fans who the true king of the 140 pound division is. But if we can't get Tiny Tim in the ring, the fans will never know. Coming off the Mayweather-Mosley fight and all the momentum it had with two African American fighters who sold out everywhere, this is the perfect time to give the fans another great fight with two of the best. It keeps that momentum going, so it makes perfect sense."
"The best should want to fight the best and the guy is who is claiming to be the best shouldn't be tucking his tail between his legs when he hears Devon Alexander's name and that's what they do."
GL: In the Gary Shaw press release he says that Bradley will still fight in California on July 17. Is it a possibility...
Kevin Cunningham: (cutting in) "It makes no sense to go into a 2,000 seat arena when we have a 20,000 seat arena that St. Louis will come out and pack."
GL: Bradley already told me he'd fight there, no problem because the gate would be bigger.
KC: "So what? He's talked **** on ********** before. Remember the quote if Devon takes care of Juan Urango we could do it next. Well, we took care of Juan Urango, so when is this man going to stand up, grow some balls and be a man of his word. This is about the sport and this is about the fans. The networks shouldn't allow this guy to look for weak opponents. We're not willing to do that, we're looking to fight Bradley now. But the excuse they will use is they want to do it in the Agua Caliente. But that makes no sense. The fight is too big to be in a 2,000 seat arena. If they don't want to come to St. Louis we'll meet him in Vegas in a neutral venue."
GL: Some will say both fighters are so young why make the fight now?
KC: "Hearns was 22 and Leonard was 25. When you make a fight that fans want to see it becomes a huge event and that's what this could do. All they have to do is stand up and be willing to fight. Stop claiming to be the best when you've been running from the best. If he's not willing to fight Devon then he shouldn't fix his mouth to say that he's the best at 140."
GL: One thing I'm sure you and Bradley can agree on is, HBO needing to take care of y'all.
KC: "You damn right. I agree 100%. But I think HBO understands, they know what they have in this fight. This is the biggest fight they could make at 140. It's the best against the best and this could create a rivalry that lasts for the next ten years. Coming off the momentum of Mayweather-Mosley, this is the perfect time to keep it going. I think this is meant to happen right now. With him even getting Maidana, it was wrong, but God doesn't like ugly and look at the situation they got now.
"What their next excuse? What can they say now to claim that they're not running? They don't have an opponent. We don't have an opponent. The only thing standing between them is air and Devon is ready to grab hold of his ass as soon as possible.
