GRAHAM HOUSTON picks MAYWEATHER over DURAN, HEARNS, and TRINIDAD

He also said he would beat Jose Napoles, But that Mayweather would have lost to Robinson, Basilio, and he would barely lose to Leonard.

Thoughts? Graham Houston is one of only several boxing writers whose opinion I truly respect. He is an absolutely excellent historian of the sport and absolutely knows his ****.

He makes some very interesting points

he'd have a pretty good chance against duran its a toss up.
he'd get ko'ed by hearns no doubt about it....but it would be a late ko.
i think he could beat trinidad though.
i assuming all of these fights are at ww which is not his best class.

i think he could outbox hearns but hearns would find a way to land that right hand i think he would knock mayweather out at any point in the fight really. Could be round 1, could be round 12. Just depends on when it lands

Basilio was a really good welter, but I can't imagine him beating Floyd. The same Duran who beat Leonard would be an epic matchup. It would get ridiculous PPV numbers.

I agree with you. Tommy lands that bomb at any point and its lights out (no disrespect to floyd).
but I feel Duran roughs him up in a very similar fight to the first Ray Leonard fight. His aggression and bullying and rough tactics would be like Floyd and Castillo but just with a guy 10 times better than Castillo.

and as much it pains me to say it, I think he could outbox Tito and win a decision BUT if Floyd gets caught Trinidad would hurt him bad and unlike Mosley this Saturday night Trinidad is a great Finisher and could possibly stop him.
I go 60/40 for floyd on that one

as Good as Carmen Basilio was, I think thats Floyd's easiest fight of the names listed in my opinion.
Robinson would just be too much for Floyd and Leonard I would favor because of his power but thats a fairly even matchup that could go either way.

I'd have Floyd over Trinidad in a shutout.

Floyd over Duran by a **** hair.

              Hearns by KO.

Hearns is a stylistic nightmare for Lil' Floyd.

I don't think Mayweather beating Napoles is a sure thing, Napoles had his off nights but when he was on he was a superb boxer.

I think Basilio would give Mayweather a pretty tough fight, he's a very durable guy who never gave up and kept coming with a grinding style. Mayweather might start out pretty good but the later rounds would have been interesting.

Don't think Mayweather would beat Hearns either.

Apart from that, I agree with Houston, Trinidad and Duran had trouble with the type of fighter Mayweather is.
