Not a fair comparison at all.


- The fight wasn't really in a 'boxing season' time of the year

- The world was tuned into the Winter Olympics

- Other major sporting events were occuring at around the same time, vying for PPV money

- Top Rank barely promoted the fight



Of course, the Mayweather brigade will casually ignore these facts and just pretend they weren't relevant in the commerical viablity of the Pac-Clotty fight.



Boxing needs MEGA fights in November/December time. People have holidays, are feeling a little down and need a big sporting event to cheer them up. I hope - and believe - a compromise can be made and Mayweather and Pacquiao can fight in Nov/December time (for a fair 50/50 purse split) in what would be the biggest PPV fight of all time.

Well, you gotta look at how Floyd vs Shane was billed as (a Super Fight) opposed to Pacquiao vs Clottey which was more a Stadium / Pacquiao show, along with the promotion leading into Mosley vs Mayweather in comparison to Pac vs Clottey. Not even close...

I was shocked that Pac vs Clottey did 700K+ on PPV, but I won't be shocked if Mosley vs Mayweather does 1.5-2Mill because it was a high profile fight and very well promoted.

With Mays fight you had something to promote , Clottey Pac everybody knew it was a in house gimme , everybody knew Pac pulled out of the May fight , they took a gamble on Mosley beating Floyd which would have reversed the negotiation power play , now its in Floyds court he calls the shots and he will squeeze Pac like a lemon ,, but Floyd really wants the fight so if its up to him he will sign after he makes Arum and Pac squirm .

Oh but there is...They had a chance to fight Mosley at 140 with a 60/40 split with no blood tests and they chose Cotto and Clottey, they said it was because Mosley didn't draw at all, then it was he was too good, then it was he doesn't draw again and he's a desperate 38 year old man that wants money.

Now he fought Floyd destroyed there numbers and people want to say well Mosley is a bigger name now all of the sudden. They will probably fight Mosley now because pac cannot help but eat after Floyd.

Mosley vs Mayweather was a legitimate fight, not an EVENT or a showcase,thats why it did huge numbers. If manny fought real fights and didn't manipulate weight and every other aspect of the rules himself he may do more numbers too, you add in that he won't fight pure boxers or Black Americans and refuses to take drug tests and then wonder why he cannot sell across the board.

The Clottey fight besides being an EVENT and not an actual fight was terrible Clottey hardly threw but when he did Pac got smacked around and he threw at 20% against a stationary target that walked in with is guard up. That Event was supposed to make Manny look better and made him look worse being that Clottey was coming off a loss and unranked.
