FLOYD MAYWEATHER SR.: "I WAS VERY SCARED...HE HAD HIS OWN PLAN"
    By Ben Thompson | May 03, 2010

"I was very scared," stated Floyd Mayweather Sr. as he talked about his initial reaction when Shane Mosley landed a monstrous right hand that appeared to hurt his son in the second round. "I mean, you know, I really wanted to tell Leonard and them, tell them what to do." According to Mayweather Sr., he became concerned after Floyd got caught with the initial right hand and just covered up as opposed to using his jab to keep Mosley off of him.

"My thing was even though you're hurt, make sure you keep that jab in front of you man and keep him off you, man, until you get, you know, until you get your head clear, you know? So he didn't do that," he explained. Regardless, he was still impressed with the fact that Floyd avoided any further damage. "He was catching punches; he made sure he didn't get no big shots, you know, and it just indicated he's a smart fighter...I mean, you know, daddy know a lot of things, but you know, sometimes, man, I don't know everything."

Still, Mayweather Sr. admits it was a tactic that he would not have taken, indicating that Floyd chose to put himself into harm's way when he didn't have to. "I know what he did, I wouldn't have did. I'm talking about in terms of getting hurt and coming back after the second round, coming back and jumping on him after I got hurt. I'd be still clearing my head up. Whether it was clear or not, I would've let it clear a little bit more because, really, to tell you the truth, man, that wasn't enough time. He just went right in man," he continued. "But sometimes, you know, he did that because I guess he had his own plan, but I definitely wouldn't have did that. I thought that was scary. I always thought that Shane had a chance to maybe come back with some kind of maybe real hard punch or something to shake him up again or something like that, but it wasn't like that."

Despite the one mistake, a mistake that could have cost him dearly, Floyd's performance likely answered a lot of questions for quite a few people who may have doubted whether or not he can take a punch. Ultimately, it was a performance that his father believes proves the greatness of his son's abilities. "Floyd, overall man, is a smart fighter and he showed that he was smart," he added. "The way he recuperated and, you know, got himself back focused and got back in the game and turned the whole thing around and dominated the game like he chose to do it.

      Good read...

I jumped up in awe when Mosley landed those shots, but I saw that Floyd kept his composure very well...

Any other fighter might have panic in that moment....

It's interesting reading things here as you see a typical father son relationship. This is probably why Floyd wanted Roger as his trainer, he isn't his dad and ultimately he will do things his way.

That being said, I think it's a good job that he brought the fight to Mosley, if he started trying to box around him staying on the outside I think Mosley would have hounded him down and would maintain the belief that he just has to get close to Mayweather then he's back in the game.

By walking him down, Mayweather took the fight out of him mentally.
