Back in the day WORLD CHAMPIONS took tuneups all the time. Look at Bernard Hopkins resume at Middleweight. His entire middleweight reign is filled with tuneup fights (carl daniels, haakar, allen, dlh, etc...).
Oscar always took a tuneup between PPV fights. He'd fight a PPV fight (quartey) then fight a tuneup on regular hbo (oba carr) and then fight another PPV fight (trinidad).
I think Ivan Calderon was ranked pretty high back then too. Mayweather should've fought him and showed his true dominance of the fictional p4p list.
You sound silly.
Marquez is a natural lightweight that challenged a Welterweight. Whose fault is that? Wasn't Marquez the one on TV calling out Mayweather? Regardless, lightweight champs throughout the history of boxing have been known to challenge the welterweight champ.
Do I need to list examples for you? Are you new to boxing?
After fighting Juan Marquez and Shane Mosley in back to back fights, Floyd should be able to take a tuneup against a lower tier fighter (like Matthew Hatton) before his next super fight against either Pacquiao or Williams.
Would Floyd still get criticism for taking a tuneup bout against the likes of Hatton?
Not exactly, you fit a tune up if;
A) You fought a WAR.
B) To keep busy to make time for the next Super Fight.
Floyd took some rocking blows in round 2, but it was far from being a War where the body is exposed to some wear, and tear.
