here are a few of the reasons. (you can call them excuses if you want)

1. Doesn't have good movement.
2. Have to be 100% sharp to fight Floyd, 16 months of ring rust is not good.
3. Getting up there in age.
4. Puts too much power in his shots, telegraphs his punches.

Reasons 1 and 4 are also the reasons that Cotto beat him.
