STEVE CUNNINGHAM SIGNS WITH SAUERLAND EVENT
Press Release: Sauerland Event has signed cruiserweight Steve Cunningham to a promotional contract. The first order of business will be schedulinga bout between Cunningham and Canada's Troy Ross for the vacant IBF cruiserweight title. A purse bid is scheduled for Thursday. Cunningham lives in Philadelphia but is well known to German fans, having dealt Marco Huck his only professional loss in Huck's hometown of Bielefeld, Germany. Huck went on to win the WBO title, while Cunningham's career has been plagued by involuntary inactivity. "I am very excited about beginning the next chapter in my boxing career by signing with Sauerland Event. I believe this is a bold but smart move especially because of my weight class. Sauerland is a major player worldwide and I can see how well they support their fighters. I'm happy to be a part of Team Sauerland and look forward to spending more time in Germany, a beautiful country with great boxing fans." Cunningham is a former IBF cruiserweight champion who lost his title to Tomasz Adamek. When Adamek moved up to heavyweight, Cunningham was selected to compete for the vacant title, but promotional failures and Matt Godfrey's refusal to fight provided intolerable delays for Cunningham. The U.S. military veteran hopes his days of inactivity are behind
