    Byrd vs. Lyakhovich Off?!

i think the byrd/lyakhovich fight has been called off! my source is boxrec.com. can anyone verify this?

if this is true, chris byrd is going down as one of the worst heavyweight champions of all time. either that or don king is the worst promoter of all time.

I haven't read anything about Chris's fight being cancelled, but Wladimir Klitschko said this in a recent interview......

Q - Wladimir, all of us expect that this summer you’ll enter the ring again. However this didn’t happen. What’s the reason for this?

WK - Initially I was supposed to fight against the IBF champion Chris Byrd. And since I’m rated as # 3 by the IBF, and both Hasim Rahman and Monte Barrett are facing each other for the Interim WBC, I was expecting to fight Chris. However he’s going to face Sergey Liakhovich. Now my team and I have to determine our future steps.

Q - Is it somehow connected with information that you are going to challenge IBF to make you official challenger by going to court in the state of New Jersey?

WK - Initially I started a case in the state of New Jersey to make me the official challenger to the IBF championship belt. But now, that the official rating for the month of May is published, I’m going to turn to court to address this issue. Reason for this √ first and second positions are not rated, while third position was given to DaVarryl Williamson. I’m rated as number four. I don’t agree with these rankings, since last October Williamson lost to me. Besides, in his last fight, he won against Derrick Jeffersion, against whom I have also won. I’m going to challenge this decision by the IBF, since I think that I have the full right to be official challenger for the IBF title.

And Chris Byrd had this to say in a following interview.........

"It don't matter. My thing is, I just want to get back in the ring. If it's Klitschko, cool, the rematch would be great. If it's Lyakhovich, that's who they said I would be fighting, but at this point I don't care who I fight I'm just ready to fight."

This is actually a godo thing Lachovic sucks. He is like #8 IBF contender, he has beaten nobody good. Chris Byrd should fight a real contender.

hes apparently NOT ready to fight because he hasnt had a scheduled fight since november. hes only fought twice within the past 14 months. that is DRAMATICALLY inactive for a heavyweight champion.

Wlad wouldn't need to sue anyone to get a ranking if he'd beaten anyone with a pulse in between his brutal stoppage losses to Sanders and Brewster.

i know u mean klitschko. but klitschko proved his point in both fights i.e. winning by KO. in his last two fights, byrd is 1-0-1 and both fights are very questionable decisions. at least vitali has a fight scheduled for this year. byrd doesnt anymore.

bozo, i thought conceding on the lewis/VK forum was enough. y do u have to hound me about liking VK?

Becuae it should be pointed out that Byrd isn't the only inactive title holder. I realize Vitali has been injured, but King was putting the screws to Byrd.

If it's true that this fight has fallen through, I'd like to see Byrd fight Brock after he gets by Craven. I think that's a solid match up.

waiting for brock to pass an opponent just makes byrd even more inactive.

at least vitali was supposed to make a defense and will in september, brewster and ruiz already made a defense. byrd is the only heavyweight champion who not only hasnt made a defense in 2005, he doesnt even have a scheduled fight at all this year!
