Odds & ends: Veteran referee Kenny Bayless draws Mayweather-Mosley assignment

Referee Kenny Bayless steps in between Floyd Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya after the final bell of their May 2007 fight.OFFICIALLY SPEAKING
The key officials all hail from Nevada, with veteran referee Kenny Bayless to serve as third man in the ring.

Bayless also was the referee when Mayweather fought Oscar De La Hoya, and for three key Mosley fights, including the 2003 no-contest result with Raul Marquez when he correctly ruled that Marquez's cuts were caused by Mosley head butts.

Bayless also worked Mosley's wins over Luis Collazo in 2007 and Fernando Vargas in their 2006 rematch. Judges are Adelaide Byrd, Robert Hoyle and Dave Moretti. Byrd and Moretti have worked two Mosley title bouts apiece. Moretti judged four of Mayweather's last seven bouts, including a cross-country trip to work the Arturo Gatti fight in 2005.

    NOTABLE
    • Hip-hop star Eminem will debut his new single as the introductory music to Friday's fourth and final installment of HBO's "Mayweather-Mosley 24/7."

    • Mosley has as many common opponents with 49-year-old Roger Mayweather (Mauricio Aceves) as with 33-year-old Floyd Mayweather (Oscar De La Hoya). Roger Mayweather knocked out Aceves in the third round of a 1988 junior welterweight title defense. Aceves went on a nine-fight losing streak to end his career, with the eighth coming against Mosley, who knocked him out in the fourth round of a 1995 bout.

    QUOTABLE
"It's just TV. She had a reality show. It was a reality show. It was a reality show. I went on a reality show. I got invited to a reality show. They invited me on some dates for a reality show and I went on it."
-- Floyd Mayweather, on the nature of his relationship with hip-hop star and former TLC member Chilli (real name: Rozanda Thomas), whose VH1 dating show "What Chilli Wants" features multiple appearances by him. In case you didn't know, it's a reality show.

"He brings a lot of mouth and they just want to see what all this mouth is about, you know. I think it's making the fight real big. He does a very good job of promoting it. I'm just happy to get in there and do my thing because I think I'm the best fighter."
    -- Mosley, on Mayweather.

"If you ask me to respond to everything that I hear Mayweather say, I wouldn't have time to go train my athlete."
    -- Naazim Richardson, Mosley's trainer.

    "Manny Pacquiao by knockout."
-- Mike Rosenthal of RingTV.com, when asked who he likes in the fight.

    BY THE NUMBERS

.583 -- Mosley's win percentage in his last 13 fights, not including the no-contest ruling against Raul Marquez. He is 7-5 during that span.

15 -- Drug-test results supplied to the Nevada Athletic Commission by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, eight for Mosley, seven for Mayweather. Commission executive director Keith Kizer said the tests were about a 50-50 split between blood and urine samples and that he last received results about two weeks ago.

$7 million -- Mosley's purse, according to the contract filed with the Nevada Athletic Commission. Mayweather's contract had not been filed as of Wednesday

It's great knowing there's an excellent ref in the ring and now we can just focus on the fighters.
