But Haye is elusive enough (some call it "running", non-idiots call it boxing) to not allow such a close-quarters situation until the mid-late rounds. Chagaev was standing there to be hit all night. Haye would be trying his hardest to evade Wlad's jabs and keep out of range for an eventual opening. Wlad would also be waiting ad nauseum for an opening, but at least he'd be throwing. The prospect still sounds boring, though.
On the other hand, there's no doubt Vitali would press the action from the opening bell and force Haye to either let his hands go in desperation or jump out of the ring to a forfeit, but Wlad is not the same kind of pressure fighter. The only reason he'd most likely go forward against Haye is because of A) his size advantage; B) his anger towards Haye; and C) Haye automatically goes backwards against any opponent.
I'm saying it now - brutal KOs aside, this is a style clash that won't produce a consistently good fight. If people want excitement, Haye should fight Vitali instead. If they want several tentative rounds with nothing but a few jabs thrown and a one-shot KO, then by all means hope for Wlad-Haye. I'm no longer a subscriber to the whole "Haye brings a ton of excitement" mentality. That he was gunshy against Ruiz of all people was laborious to watch at times. "Hit him, Dave!" :eyeroll:
