Quintana Returns in August at 154/160

    'El Indio' Wil Continue

Rey Colón El Vocero On Friday April 23, 2010

Carlos 'El Indio' Quintana will take a vacation but as Gen. Douglas McCarthur, he will return again in August at 154 pounds without discarding moving up to middleweight if he receives an offer that suits his taste.

Quintana lost in eight rounds to the Haitian Andre Berto, WBC welterweight champion, in a fight where he was weakened by the effort he made to get down to that division after a couple of years fighting at 154 pounds.

"The welterweight division is a thing of the past. Honestly, Berto is not as strong as it seems. I knocked him down in the first rounds but the referee said it was not a knock down and hurt him a couple more times. But I had no strength. When Berto is confronted with someone who is strong at that weight, I dont think he will prevail. I thought about retirement but no, I'm back at 154 pounds, maybe 160, "he said.

That night, the Mocano former WBO welterweight king, rehydrated 15 pounds after hitting a 146 1 / 2 at the official weigh, and his stamina seemed not to be the best.

"I had a good workout, nutritionist and everything, but that night was as usual. I couldnt throw my hands. I was very weak. I'm wont be back at 147 and I'll be back at 154 and who knows if middleweight. It all depends on the offers but, theres a lot of Indio left. We will try and get that opportunity in the 154 division to see if they believe that I am declining. I hope to return in August, "appropriated.

He said that in mid-May will begin his training in Moca and then tighten the same under the supervision of Jose Bonilla to come back in late August.

For his part, Bonilla said he supports the decision of the boxer who could point his cannons toward the Argentine Sergio 'Maravilla' Martinez, 154-pound WBC champ and the now WBO and WBC middleweight king after beating Kelly Pavlik.

"EL Indio has to gain weight. He can fight up to 160 pounds. And I told him so. It has my support. He can not return to 147 pounds and we are checking to fight again in August. He is in good health and fought well but the referee was a factor too. Didnt count the knock down, and not allowed el Indio to implement his fight plan. That affected us, "settlement

        Quintana is pretty irrelevant now.

When does Juanma fight again and who is it against?

Ok, ill give him that BUT taking those shots on the chin aint gonna replenish his punch resistance. You still think he can make a name in the 154 division?

I dont really know, we have to see and weight how he comes back. 154 is not as talented as people think, he can beat some guys still.
