Most of you have read my Cotto Overrated thread, now let me explain a littile more where Im coming from. "ABDIEL2K3" made some comments about the fight and most of you killed him for it but I actually think him and I see it mostly the same way.
1st of all Cotto got hit clean way too much and you guys can say his plan was to move(and it was) but not that much. I think Abby's power hurt him and scared him and he stayed on the move way more then he wanted to. I said the HBO commentators were on him to much because when Abby was doing well they would praise Cotto. I actually thought Abby won the 1st round and then Merchant says braggingly "Do you think Abby thinks this is the same Cotto he fought in the olympics" like Cotto killed him in the 1st or something. The fight was also in NY and everytime Cotto threw a combo the crowd went crazy but "ABDIEL2K3" was right. Most of the punches would get blocked and sometimes Cotto punches changed. He would get kind of slappy with them.
I disagree with those who didnt agree with me on Cotto fighting like Joel did the first fight. He did. The only reason why it didnt look all the way the same was because Kid Diamond is better and faster then Abby so Cotto could move around and get off sometimes because he knew that Abby wouldnt throw then but if he had Kid Diamond's speed then Cotto wouldve threw even much less.
Cotto didnt look good against Chop and I thought he looked worst tonight. Think about this. He had alot of problems with Abby and N'Dou. He doesnt fight well against pressure and his power is way overrated. He didnt look like he had that much power at all last night. You guys are acting like he beat the crap out of Abby and made him quit but if his eye wasnt messed up the fight wouldve easily went the distance.
In the N'Dou fight I thought he almost lost and what did everyone say? They said if N'Dou had a littile more power or threw straighter punches then he wouldve beat Cotto or maybe KO him. Tonight was the exact opposite. If Abby had N'Dou's speed and could punch on the move then he wouldve beat Cotto and probally stopped him. The point is they didnt but the point is also that N'Dou is a journeymen and Abby was a older prospect who hadnt beat anyone. When Cotto steps up he will be fighting guys who can do things way better then these 2 and he isnt ready for that.
Thats why I say he is overrated. He is a good prospect but he has way to much hype around him and if he looks a littile better then average then people make it sound like he was awesome. Last night he wasnt and even his hard core fans know even if they dont want to admit it. One thing I know is that his fans arent as ****y about him as they used to be and they can see some serious flaws in him also. At first they saw him as a guanantee and now they are not for sure. and what makes it even worst is that he cant stay at 140 forever and at 147 he will be just another fighter. This guy is not a elite prospect.
PS- I also think that he isnt as high on his own self as he used to be also. He shouldve had a much better performance in Puerto Rico in front of his home fans and he shouldve had a much better performance in his secon home on NY and he didnt and his fans know it. Also you guys say it was smart for him to keep moving and not trade with Abby but what happened to Cotto being so much stronger and a harder puncher then every one? A few fights ago you guys wouldve said that no one could stand toe to toe with Cotto but now you say it is smart that he didnt trade with Abby? Overrated power and at 147 he will barley hurt guys
