Tyson: final Liston parallel/would it have been better to have gone to the scorecards

Writers have loved to create Tyson-Liston parallels over the years, so it was kind of fitting last night that Tyson retired on his stool after the sixth and refused to come out for the seventh.

Of course, if you take that to its logical conclusion then that would suggest Kevin McBride is Cassius Clay, and it all falls down a bit.

Another point - would it have been better for Tyson to have dragged it out for four more rounds (assuming that he could have avoided being KOed in the meantime) and gone to the scorecards? I think any rational viewer would have to admit that he was behind, particularly after being docked two points, but amazingly two of the three judges had him up at the final stage. Had it gone to ten rounds, he could concievably have retired with one last "win".

it sounded liek tyson knew he had no more energy to go on. He went "all out" in the 6th round becuase he knew he couldnt make it to the scorecardds, he would have been tko'd most likely.

Thats what happens when you 39 and arn't used to fighting rounds. He just doesn't have it and probably hasn't since 1999.

I'd agree with that.... Iron Mike Tyson died before the millennium. A shame that he spent his last few years being dragged out as part of a circus. At least he's still healthy, which is something we should be thankful for.

Tyson died in 1990, Buster Douglas killed the wrecking machine.

At least Tyson never took a dive in round I like Sonny Liston did against Clay in the second fight.
