Writers have loved to create Tyson-Liston parallels over the years, so it was kind of fitting last night that Tyson retired on his stool after the sixth and refused to come out for the seventh.
Of course, if you take that to its logical conclusion then that would suggest Kevin McBride is Cassius Clay, and it all falls down a bit.
Another point - would it have been better for Tyson to have dragged it out for four more rounds (assuming that he could have avoided being KOed in the meantime) and gone to the scorecards? I think any rational viewer would have to admit that he was behind, particularly after being docked two points, but amazingly two of the three judges had him up at the final stage. Had it gone to ten rounds, he could concievably have retired with one last "win".
