Here are my observations from 24/7:
1) Brother Naazim - as cixthree has said - does strike me as being fake and manipulating the media. I definitely have heard guys talk JUST like him, and those cats usually have a Final Call or something. Bean pie, my brother?
But Roger puts on a show, Roach does, and Nacho was badass in his moment to shine. Billy Graham talked a lot of smack. I'm not hating on brother Naazim.
2) I don't believe Floyd. He KNOWS that he cares about the legacy. His uncle and trainer is a boxing historian. Floyd grew up in gyms. He has historical posters hanging in his gym. He sparred with Pernell as a teenager. He has an old-school approach to the sport. Floyd, we don't believe you,; you need more people.
But he will take the opposite position from Shane on every possible topic because that is what sells. Division. The polarity. East vs West. Good vs Evil.
Really , Floyd? You didn't like the way Shane treated Jack? ("I like Jack Mosley"
) Hypocrite, much?
3) And this is the big one: Shane needs to make up his mind. Not just Shane , but ALL of Mayweather's opponents. If you want that big payday that a Mayweather fight brings, you need to be able to tolerate the trash-talk. Because the trash-talk is the vehicle that sells the fight. If Shane wanted a quiet, respectful opponent, then he can go fight Collazo in an empty arena, or fight Margarito for $2 million.
Like Jack Nicholson said in A Few Good Men, don't ask me to protect you, and then question the manner in which I provide that protection. It would be like the guys on the PGA Tour complaining about the loud crowds that Tiger brings, when those raucous galleries mean bigger prize money for them.
If you want to fight Mayweather, that means Floyd will promote the fight. And he does that with his mouth. You are getting paid handsomely for the trouble of hearing a month of verbal abuse. You know what? You can call me anything you want for five million dollars.
You can have a quiet camp and $2 million, or you can get ****ted on for eight million. Take your pick.
4) Floyd Sr made the best point last night about their fight styles. Shane does fight "jittery". He does that eggbeater motion with his hands. It also creates the appearance of activity for Shane. Meanwhile Floyd will calmly shoot straight shots. That swirling motion telegraphs Shane's punches.
5) HBO shoots about 100 hours of tape each week, and then edits it down to 24 minutes. So, before you start to argue or fomulate opinions, ask yourself if you are being manipulated by clever editors and production staff.
6) I haven't seen a bit of Steve Forbes in Floyd's camp. Where he be at?
7) I wanted to hear/see more of Shane's trainer. We met Ariza, and also Cotto's guy. He didn't seem to be the most athletic guy, so I was surprised that they did roadwork together.
8) Mayweather showed a moment of sensitivity in talking about his uncle's and dad's respective health issues. As a not-so-young man, that has to weigh on Floyd and force him to ponder his own mortality.
9) Between the barbecues at Cotto's mansion, and the tilapia in butter sauce that the Mosley Tribe feasts on, 24/7 makes me hungry. The camaraderie of a training camp is always a fascinating dynamic to me, and it is good to see how relaxed Shane is. Naazim clearly has the respect of his team, and his affable demeanor is very tranquilizing.
10) Roger's nurse can get it.
