can someone explain more about the highlanders to me? what part of the world did/do they come from?

The term Highlander can be used to describe anybody living in the highlands (mountians).

Tomasz is a Goral which are a group of people who live in the Carpathian Mountians. Gorals live in the Carpathians around the Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic boarders.

Their culture, language etc are slightly different from regular Polish people.
