I have these discussions all the time. La Motta got his ass whooped so many times but still fought like a beast.

I think its alot to do with fighters mental states nowadays, they're built up to be unbeatable and when they get whooped they lose that healthy arrogance.

Also, fighters back then had much bigger hearts IMO.
