    What would you think if....

Pacquiao vs. Mayweather didn't break the ODLH vs. Floyd record.

Just hear me out I'm not saying that would happen (hell no it wouldn't) but
I'm just saying what if it does 2.1-2.3 Million buys.

I would seriously think that boxing is dead to the casual public.

Would boxing promoters/sponsors get discouraged in sponsoring
boxing events since not that many people seemed interested in the
biggest fight of the past 10-20 years?

I would think the fight lost some luster because Pac didnt go through as planned and take the tests, everybody was hot on the fight after Pac beat Cotto.

It would be show boxing's transition from a mainstream sport to the underground. It would definitely break the record though. Mayweather is more of household name now than he was against de la Hoya. Manny is just as well-known as Floyd.

If it was very close to Mayweather-De La Hoya but not ahead, then I wouldn't say boxing is dead. People forget how huge of an attraction Oscar De La Hoya is. He could get in the ring with a pack of gum and do 1.5mill. Mayweather didn't become the cash cow until AFTER the De La Hoya fight, so a majority of PPV buys were because of DLH. Same thing goes for Manny. Both Manny and Floyd were averaging about 300k before they fought De La Hoya. Afterwards they started averaging around 900k, and a lot of those fans who bought those fights watch both fighters (like myself), so I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they don't even reach 2mill. But if they do anything less than 1.7mill, I'd call it a flop.

That's why I hate when people try to compare Mayweather-Marquez to Pacquiao-Marquez, or Pacquiao-Clottey to Mayweather-Baldomir. Both are ****** comparisons because one of each in the comparisons was after their DLH showdown, while the other was before.
