  • Why does a fighters purse/PPV numbers matter.

A whole bunch of posters on this forum always bring up PPV numbers to either discredit a fighter or make their fighter look better. My question is why does this matter? Does this really justify anything? Does it discredit any fighter? Do they make you fav boxer better? The answer is no! I can name dozens of fighters who over the years made no money, got overlooked by the mainstream, had zero PPV numbers, and still were the baddest mother***ers in the ring.

You guys have to remember that Chavez Jr. makes more money and has better PPV numbers than about half of the top 20 fighters in boxing today so does that make him a better boxer?

    *** NO!!!!

People talk about ppv numbers because they are a huge part of boxing, a fighters draw is the biggest part of contract negotiations for any fight.

The typical answer is that we're hardcore boxing fans and we care about every aspect of the sport...

because fanantics/groupies sadly live through their fighters vicariously and goes as far as get emotionally involved for example, many floyd fans take PRIDE in the fact that Floyd makes moere money than other fighters. They will actually use that to insult another person's favorite fighter as if Floyd was their father. Here is an example..

You started off good and then showed your true colors. Are you blind to the fact that both sides do this? Pac fans do this just as much as Floyd fans do. Hell Martinez fans are starting to do that ****. It's all bad, don't blame one group and act like the other isn't doing a thing. Smh...You are much better than this but your hate of Floyd fans always comes out my good friend.

Unfortunately for some fans...they throw this out there as a fact to support their fighter (yes both Pac and Floyd fanatics) to say that he is the best....the cash cow...the ppv king etc......

Funny thing is....back in the golden days of boxing....everything was on network TV...so of course fighters back then were'nt getting paid what they were worth....imagine if we had a modern day Ali or Foreman....how much would they be getting / demanding?

At the end of the day...any realistic boxing fan wouldn't and shouldn't throw #s like that out there....and if they did...it just shows that they are are fan of the fighter and not the sport......
