The whole "specualte about someones sexuality becuase I dont like them" is by far gayer than any picture or story about anyone, especially when you dont even personally know the person. Its also used a defense mechanism by gays in most when they are persercuted,insulted or against someone they dislike. A gay man can get mad at someone or simply use it against someone they dont like.

Example:

Little Johnny dosent like Floyd.
Little Johnny decides hes gonna spread rumors about floyd being gay.
Little Johnny feels a sesne of accomplishment as he attempts to tarnish the image of a man he has never met and never will.
