Who will Antonio Margarito fight first: Manny Pacquiao or Sergio Martinez?

The man can’t even fight in the United States yet, but already has two possible big-time fights lined up in the near future. I’ve never seen a fighter, who’s been suspended for ‘cheating’, be in high demand like this before. Promoter Bob Arum is pushing for Maragarito and Pacquiao later this year. However, newly crowned middleweight champion Sergio Martinez just laid down the challenge to Margarito. So, who will Antonio fight first Pacquiao or Martinez?

    Pacquiao

Bob Arum has been pushing for a fight between Margarito and Pacquiao later this year. He’s gone on record several times stating that Margarito is his preferred opponent for Pacman’s second fight of 2010. And as of right now, Margarito echoes the same sentiments:

“I want to fight Manny Pacquiao. He has my title belt and I want it back. I know I can beat him.” Margarito, Boxingscene.com

    Martinez

Recently crowned middleweight champion Sergio Martinez recently told Boxingscene.com that he would love a rematch against Margarito:

“I’ve waited ten years for that fight. I would love to fight Antonio Margarito. He’s a great boxer and a good champion.”

Martinez and Margarito first fought on February 19th, 2000 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. Martinez suffered his first defeat succumbing to a TKO in the 7th round.

Joey Paulsen Sacramento, CA “Who will Margarito end up fighting Pacquiao or Martinez?”

This all depends on Margarito being able to overcome his suspension for cheating. If he can get a license to fight in Texas (which is where Arum is trying to get Margarito reinstated) then I believe a fight vs. Pacquiao will happen first. If Margarito is denied a license, then I think a fight against Martinez in Mexico would happen. It could be a big draw and a big fight.

I think it would be best for Margarito to take on Martinez first. A win over Martinez, and newly acquired title, would make a fight vs. Pacquiao more appealing and more marketable; which equates to more money for all parties involved.

The money is probably with Pacquiao, as a fan I'd probably rather see Martinez get his revenge though.

i think if bob arum is not so greedy and i would be suprised if manny pacquaio and antonio margarito didnt fight first even though it would probably be alot better for margarito to sharpen his skills some before even dreaming about the big payday and fight with the pacman i think he will fight sergio martinez first for the 154 belt before he eventually fights the pacman at 147 ...

Pacquiao for the money. If he fights Martinez first and loses, he can kiss the Pacquiao fight goodbye.

                  this.

All the other post make sense too, but this makes the most sense, cuz martinez is a dangerous fight (Good chin and power w/ lateral movements = not a good match for marg)

I hope Martinez so Arum will lose another top fighter without anything in return.
