IMO, being that I have studied mental disorders, I can almost guarantee he had Bi-polar disorder (and It seem like a severe version at that). Combine that with ******* and alcohol addiction and it's not shocking that he acted like this. I have seen several instances where people had bi-polar coupled with drug and alcohol addiction and each one of those persons were just as bad as Edwin Valero (in some cases worst).

I feel real sorry for him and his family, taking into consideration how mental disorders affect people when they go unchecked. What's done is done and I hope I kids are taken care of.

I agree 100% with you, i have family that have had issues similar to this, you sound like an intelligent person.

Wow, seriously, all of you need to take it down from an 11 to like a 4. Ultimately TS blames the government for not Valero not getting help, who knows if that would have changed anything or just delayed it. Others blame valero directly, others are still looking for someone to blame, but you all just need to chill the **** out on hating on each other.

hugo chavez let valero do whatever he wanted because valero was an international athlete that had hugo's face on his chest.

all you mofos should've known this ship was gonna crash when that mental case put hugo's face on his chest.

I have two relatives and they are way worst than Valero (as far as managing anger). People with severe mental issues like bi-polar are just walking time bomb....and they aren't on drugs so I can only imagine having that along with alchohol.

In all honestly, I know I bull**** and joke around on NSB a lot, but when it comes to this, I try not to make fun of issues like this.

I've read a lot of posts regarding the Edwin Valero case recently. The majority of them trash the guy; some defend him. But most seem to share one thing in common. Jennifer Viera, Valero's wife, is rarely ever the focus of peoples' sympathies. In fact, the kids are hardly focused on as victims, either. Nearly everyone here tends to concentrate on whether Valero was a horrible person or whether he was misunderstood. The true victims, in my mind, have become afterthoughts.

While I concur that there are things about the case we will never know, we do know that a young, beautiful woman died needlessly and two young children have been orphaned. I think we all agree that what Edwin Valero did -- or is believed to have done -- was terribly wrong. In my opinion, those who have chosen to give Valero the "benefit of the doubt" are simply choosing the opposite side. There is little question that Valero had demons racing around his tormented mind. But if the murder victim had been the defenders' mother, sister, aunt, girlfriend, I have no doubt that they would be a little less sympathetic to Edwin's perceived mental issues.

The way I see it, the people who are flaming Valero have at least some reason to. The people who have chosen to focus on his pain as the cause of all this tragedy are drawing conclusions that are ultimately irrelevant. A case could be made for every person who commits a heinous act. When defenseless people are killed and innocent children are condemned to a parentless life, the last thing one should focus on is the mental anguish of the murderer.
