When Did JAmes Toney start using the MONGOOSE defense?

for those of you that dont know the mongoose is when u put ur front hand across your body and ur right hand plastered on your chin..the way toney and mayweather defense themselves. I was watching early toney fights and noticed he didnt do it vs reggie johnson..what fight was it that he began using it and what trainer was the one that taught him that?

He does that when he angles his body so that he's sideways to his opponent. Right hand to the chin to block left hooks.

i havent seen the nunn fight in awhile but i dont recall him using it vs nunn. In the reggie johnson fight he got hit more than usual and that was cause he had the conventional defense

That type of fight is very old old school. I believe Sugar Ray Robinson fought the same way. Sideways, very little target to hit...Toney is a great example of defensive boxing. I don't think he's ever been hurt.

he's actually been knocked down legitimately by reggie johnson and i heard he was hurt vs sosa ( to the point where he had spaghetti legs). I never seen it and would be amazed to see someone like toney hurt
