does this mean he started his amatuer career when he was 20? or his pro career when he was 20?

I was wondering the same thing myself, he must be a natural because despite the balance issues they mentioned on the telecast, I see a very skilled counter puncher who throws very awkward counters at very tough angles. I mean that in a very impressed manner as well. he is very skilled fights with his hands down and gets off good punches while moving in and out. For someone who started late he appears very seasoned.

I heard he first got into a boxing gym when he was 19, Then presumably went with an amatuer career pretty quick after that. He turned pro in December 97, Like 12 years ago, He's 35 so he turned pro about age 23.

He started boxing at the age of 20 because he wanted to improve his conditioning for soccer and cycling. He fell in love with boxing and turned pro a few years later. He had a short amateur career to other top boxers.

well.. what he lacked in experience, he more than made up for with a lot of discipline, trainning like hell.

it won't be easy. i hope that you will be next champ though

Tony Thompson (ranked number 10 in some organizations lists) is a heavyweight who is 38 years old, and did not start boxing until he was 27....

He was 20 when he first stepped foot into a boxing gym.

                Turned pro at 23.

He was a major athlete before that, though.
