is there a maravilla hype train? i'd happily come aboard
This proves that you know absolutely nothing about boxing and should be watching MMA or professional wrestling exclusively. Martinez fought a brilliant fight. A great fighter can cut off the ring or counter effectively and beat a great boxer. Pavlik couldn't do that because Martinez is better skilled. He wasn't on a "bicycle" as you put it. He threw more punches and landed more punches. How the hell is a fighter who fights like that considered to be on a "bicycle".

What Dirrell did against Froch is no comparison because Froch clearly outboxed and outpunched Dirrell in that fight. In my estimation, Froch won 8-4 rounds and was both a better boxer and puncher in that fight. I won't waste my time talking about Mayweather because it would be the equivalent of Einstein explaining physics to a first grader.

Martinez could literally pick Paulie up and eat him like a cracker.

That's why boxing is separated by weight classes.

Martinez adapted to Pavlik's jabs and came out of the corner in the 9th round owning it. The blows Martinez connected with in the 8th and 9th round is what did Pavlik in. I'll watch that rematch.

We saw what Hopkins did to Pavlik.
Hopkins wasnt coming up in weight, 4 inches shorter, and 11lbs lighter

This is true. I still have trouble equating victories when the participants in either fight just aren't on the class level of the other. Especially when it comes to just pure boxing in a way.

Pavlik is the epitome of a club fighter.

He relies on his attrition, power and ability to remain dangerous because of those facets......and really doesn't have the required athleticism in order to be a pugilist and be successful at the top level.

Sure he was a Champ but as close to Paper champ as there would be.

Compare him to a fighter who has ALL the tools (IE Bernard Hopkins)

I couldn't agree more.. i never really supported pavlik or fell for the hype, i never saw anything more than a jab and a cross. He's never thrown, or attempted, a uppercut or hook (to my knowledge), and hardly ever goes to the body. He got famous off 2 victories against men who stood still long enough to allow him to actually get some work in, and they also have the bad habit of always dropping their left hand so that they can be hit by....whaddya know? the only punches kelly knows. 1-2 (miranda, taylor).

In terms of skill martinez is in an entirely different league but even then, it's definitely a feat to come up and dethrone the king like that considering the size disparity. But i think everyone who actually knows a thing or two about how styles psychologically effect fighters knew that not only does Kelly have the absolute wrong arsenal to contend against lateral movers, but he also seems to break down upstairs whenever things aren't going his way.

We can shrug the victory off and say " the guy who SHOULD have won, won " but, unfortunately, that's not how it works.
