Yeah it's because he's a lanky power puncher. They always look like they're throwing lazy punches because of the big leverage but then when one lands people get hurt and you're surprised by the audible CRACK. Same reason Klitschko fights look a whole lot more brutal during a slow motion replay, or if you're listening with your eyes closed.

On the contrary guys like Tyson who are shorter and wider look like they hit harder than they do (not that he didn't hit hard)

pavlik knows how to sit down on his punches. with all that gorilla training he does, with using the sledgehammer and baseball bat, hitting the tires, it has taught him the right way to transfer his weight in delivering power form the ground up into and out the end of his punches.

he's a natural with the power and his training just reinforces it. i wouldn't say it's because of volume, i think volume is his style and power is his natural ace in the hole........... because pavlik hurts guys with one punch. even hopkins said," dude hits hard, i just wasn't going to let him hit me", even hopkins couldn't deny that pavlik hits hard.......... thats saying something.
