danny Green will fight Tarver 'for free'

After disposing of Manny Siaca to retain his IBO cruiserweight world title, a frustrated Danny Green is prepared to fight Antonio Tarver in the US for free.

And a bout with heavyweight Evander Holyfield could also be on the cards if Green runs out of viable cruiserweight or light-heavyweight opponents.

Green felt hollow after his third round technical knockout win over Siaca, who put up little fight and spent more time complaining about hits to the back of the head than throwing meaningful punches.

Green's trainer Angelo Hyder has urged his charge to match it with the big boys at heavyweight.

Hyder revealed 47-year-old Holyfield, who defeated Francois Botha by technical knockout earlier this month to win the World Boxing Federation heavyweight title, had shown interest in fighting Green.

'He approached us before this fight (with Siaca) to fight,' Hyder said.

'I've suggested he (Green) fight at heavyweight.

'From my eyes, there's no cruiserweight in the world that can go with him, he's going to knock them all out.

'As soon as he hits any of them clean he's going to knock them out.

'I think he could beat (WBA world heavyweight champion) David Haye.

'I would seriously like him to fight David Haye.'

But Green played down the prospect of moving up a weight division and said former IBF, WBC and IBO light-heavyweight champion Tarver had re-emerged as a likely opponent.

'I think Antonio Tarver would be an exciting fight,' Green said.

'He's a big, strong puncher, he's got a massive history and he's got that recognition and he's showed interest now.'

Green said he would have no worries fighting 41-year-old Tarver in the US.

'I'll go for free, just give me the Australian TV (money),' Green said.

'As I said to Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins, don't give me a cent, I'll go there for free, and they both declined.

'Roy came here, Bernard didn't want to fight me in America for free, he didn't want to fight me in Australia for $US3million, minimum.'

Green said he was no longer interested in fighting Hopkins after the American's unimpressive win over Jones Jr.

'Bernard Hopkins didn't want to come to Australia because he knew he would get the same punishment as what Roy did,' Green said.

'You saw him against Roy Jones.

'He made a smart decision not coming Down Under, made a very smart move.'

Green believed his bout with Siaca was stopped too early, denying him the chance to execute a clean knockout.

Siaca hit the canvass in the third round after wearing three right hooks from Green and referee Jack Reiss stopped the fight despite the Puerto Rican rising to his feet as the count neared 10.

'The referee definitely jumped in too early,' Green said.

'Manny could have jumped up a second earlier, he was waiting for the count, for the 10 to get maximum recovery time.

'Then he jumped up, ref jumped in and called it off.

'I felt the way it was going I thought I was going to deliver what I wanted to give to the people, and that was a clean knockout.

'I'm happy with the victory but there's also a tinge of disappointment at how it ended.'

Ha, why does he want Tarver. Why not Johnson or Dawson?

run out? he hasn't started yet. roy jones hasn't been viable since 2004 and manny siaca was a semi retired super middleweight.

I like how he says Tarver has a "massive history". Said the same about Jones. A bit of a back-handed compliment: Green-speak for "He's old and washed-up".

He's got a different meaning of the word free than me.
