Gomez would probably be too much right now for Alvarez, who hasn't really gotten in there with anyone that qualifies as a live body. We just don't know what'll happen when Alvarez faces someone that will actually put hands on him regularly, and Alvarez is pretty open defensively. Gomez would probably outbox Canelo and win by pretty clear decision as it stands now. I'd look at someone like David Estrada or Matthew Hatton for a step-up fight were I managing Canelo, then move on to Gomez level if that went well.
that would be a great fight, i know saul is hot right now and on his way but gomez might be able to trouble him, him seems to be at his best right now and while it might no be enough to win, it might enough to make put saul in a hard fight.
Actually Gomez is the one he should had fought instead of Cotto, who is a LW!!
He hasn't fought at LW since 2007. His last 3 fights have been at WW since he came back to boxing. Cotto is a big challenge for Canelo. Cotto's only loss was to a very fresh Juan Diaz.

Jose Cotto's three Welterweight fights have been against bums, two of which who were actually Light Welterweights and the other fighter who was actually a Welterweight was 37 years old with four KOs to his credit on a 9-20-1 record. The guy is 5 ft, 5.5 inches tall and wasn't by any stretch a great Lightweight either. If he gives Alvarez some trouble, then Alvarez is going to need a longer development time than hoped.
