Martinez is great at utilizing lateral movement to set up shots from angles and more importantly, the unexpected right hook. How is Pavlik going to stop that? What fight have we seen where Pavlik was able to effectively cut off the ring? What Pavlik performance has shown us that he has the ability to deal with lateral movement?
well he did get close to hopkins........but pavlik has too much of a not get hit attitude and his slow ass always tries to block even if he has no chance but to hope to trade.....whenever he got close to hopkins, nard just flurried and turned him.....and pavlik tried to block everytime instead of steppin back or trying to trade punches...so his offence was shutdown...then again, hopkins is waaay bigger and stronger than sergio...if pavlik doesnt respect martinez' power, its gonna be a hard night for sergio...thats assuming pavlik hasnt forgotten about the body...the few times in his career i saw him fight movers, he went to the body pretty well........like when he KO'ed Grady Brewer
Martinez will wear down from moving too much. He wore down in the Williams fight, he had the fight right there to be won and could not dig down deep.
Pavlik's activity and physical strength will be too much for a guy who is really best off at 154.
I think people are not realizing that Williams and Pavlik do not fight alike. Williams is able to apply pressure coming forward and just plain following his opponent around. He's CONSTANTLY on your ass throwing punch after punch. Of course Martinez wore down, Williams didn't let him breathe.
Pavlik is more of a stationary offensive machine who is mostly successful because his opponents try to out**** him. Pavlik's output only increases when his opponents are against the rope. Because of this, Martinez will be fighting at a comfortable, more relaxed tempo and he will be even more dangerous.
He's a workhorse. He throws a lot and never gives up.
Even when he boxed Taylor 2, he was working hard.
Martinez is fast, but is he really that good?
Sorry but on styles, and the fact that Williams had little prep, and is a very open guy, Martinez had a close fight.
Pavlik is honestly another animal.
People think Pavlik would lose to Williams, but Williams openess is actually tailor made for Pavlik imo.
I agree. Williams stunned Martinez a few times and his power is nothing compared to Pavlik's.
Martinez is very sloppy and loves to hold his hands down when he thinks he is out of range, that will be a problem against Pavlik just like it was against Williams.
He will get worn down and likely taken out.
I think Pavlik would do the same to Williams, I am looking forward to Pavlik getting back some of the respect that he lost. I think he deserves is and has been treated unfairly by fans after giving us a series of excellent exciting fights.
Martinez likes to move around, but he also likes to engage. Look how many times he opened up on Williams. But how did that happen? Williams leans in and he's really not hard to hit at all. Pavlik makes it a little more difficult in the sense that he knows how to fight tall and uses his jab like a missile that sets up his bomb of a right hand. He looks like an ordinary straight forward fighter, but it works for him and it's deceptive in its own right.
Martinez will be fresh early on, but I think once they start mixing it up Martinez is going to feel some bombs and he may start to flee a little. I got Pav stopping him late in the fight. People also tend to forget how exhausted Martinez was by rounds 10 on in the Williams fight.

Pavlik isn't a bad fighter, but something has been wrong with his camp even before Hopkins.
I like Pavlik, I hate Jack Loew.
He was terrible agaisnt Hopkins, and maybe the catch weight was bad. I recall Arum thinking it was an easy fight, maybe Pavlik did too.
Pavlik needs to beat Martinez, and then Williams to get some of that P4P status back.

2 mil on Pavlik. You down?
No fighter fights 1005 the same, but there are signs that show weaknesses and strengths.
Pavlik will walk you down, be on top of you and in rnage 80% of the time.
