Exclusive Interview: Hasim Rahman
By G. Leon
GL: What's good Rock? How do you feel about all of the posturing going on through the press right now? "All I'm focusing on right now is August 13. I'm fighting for the interim title on August 13 and there's nothing else that matters to me right now. I'm glad Monte's eating and sleeping Hasim Rahman, because there's nothing that matters more to me than a devastating win on August 13."
GL: Monte came on the 13th round, a radio show in Vegas that I was brought in to guest co-host along with cutman Stitch Duran, Monte said he's going to become Boxing's Cinderella Man on August 13...
Hasim Rahman: "He will be, that's a fairy tale. He could be Cinderella all he wants."
GL: Last week it was Lamon Brewster, this week Vitali Klitschko wants to fight James Toney. How do you feel about that?
HR: "I don't want to mess up the interview. I do have a lot to say, but at this point no other heavyweight division means anything to me. I've got Monte Barrett in my path and I know he's coming with 100% to achieve his goals, I'm coming with my best so it's going to be a fight. I can't be studying anyone else right now, but if they don't want to fight me now they're definitely not going to fight me after August 13."
GL: If Klitschko fights someone else in September, do you think the WBC should strip him?
HR: "Absolutely. And the way I plan on executing my game plan I'll be able to go from Monte to Klitschko six weeks later."
GL: Does that mean you believe this fight with Barrett will be over early?
HR: "Yes, I believe so. Right now some other versions of myself could have done that in the past, but just from the early stages of how I'm looking in the gym, I'm going to be incredible. There's only going to be one heavyweight in the world people want to talk about after August 13."
GL: Is there anything you'd like to say in closing?
HR: "Tune in August 13 and you'll see the best heavyweight in the world."
