Russian-born boxer Kostya Tszyu has fired his trainer Johnny Lewis after losing his IBF light-welterweight crown to Britain's Ricky Hatton.
Tszyu, 35, who has held a version of the light-welterweight title for 10 years, suffered a shock defeat to Hatton after failing to answer the bell for the 12th and final round in their championship bout in Manchester on Sunday.
Tszyu's manager Matt Watt said the Sydney-based boxer had made a decision to ditch Lewis for stopping the fight.
"Kostya wanted to continue but Lewis felt that he was losing the fight," Tszyu's promoter Vlad Warton was quoted as saying by Sovietsky Sport newspaper.
"It wasn't Kostya's decision to end the fight. He would have never stopped his own fight."
Tszyu and Lewis have been together since 1992 after the boxer moved from Russia to Australia.
Big shock to me.
