    Antwone smith

Did anyone catch his fight with Franklin Gonzalez on the berto undercard? If you did, what are your thoughts on him stylistically as a future prospect in the welterweight division?

At the age of 22 with 18 wins, 10 by ko, 1 defeat and 1 draw, given a few more fights and I am sure he can make some noise in that division.

Being the first time I heard of him, I found his style very entertaining to watch. A boxer puncher who isn't afraid to take risks to get the job done. A good jab, a mean left hook which he ko'd Franklin with to the body, he can counterpunch, a tight defence with a bit if the peekaboo and the Philly shell, moves well on his feet and I found him very composed.

What are your thoughts? A Future contender?

There aren't many good videos of him on YouTube or non that I have cone across but if there is anyone here with links to past fights, feel free to post them.

I found him to be entertaining as well. I was ringside and have seen him a few other times. He has a Foremanesque style to him but is a touch one dimensional IMO. He will do very well with guys of a lesser caliber but when he gets in with someone who can pitter patter on the outside he will have problems IMO. His style is suited to in fighting and if someone takes him out of that element I dont know if he can adjust. But, great hand speed and composure in the ring. He always looks very very relaxed; a great prospect.

He said he is a pressure fighter, usually black fighters are boxers, i found that interesting.

After watching him, imo he dosesn't have star quality, i think against a world class talent he would get dismantled, though he was fighting a bum so still a lot of learning to do.

Also how annoying is that grunt he does its proper loud.

I think Antwone Smith and Mike Jones are the best WW prospects right now. Like I said before everybody is all hyped on Alvarez and Brooks. And, they're good prospects. But, they're not and IMO will not be as good as Antwone Smith and Mike Jones.

Smith had a breakout year last year. When he stepped the level of comp and beat Richard Gutierrez and an undefeated prospect in Henry Crawford. I would like to see Smith fight somebody like Delvin Rodriguez next.

Another prospect that might be able to do something. Is James De la Rosa, he is only 22yrs old and has some skills. But, he is getting moved quite slowly.

Mike Jones for the win. Guy fought a buddy of mine Juliano Ramos who is a good fighter and he gave him a fit 5 fights ago.

i wouldnt put antwone in the same category as mike jones. to me antwone has all the makings of an exciting fighter and contender, but he'll come up just short.
jones is much more well-rounded, but i can see antwone being in more demand becuz he's more entertaining and vulnerable. i'd personally put him in the same category as kell brook as a prospect.

i've seen james de la rosa as well and i wasnt that impressed. at most i think he could be similar to delvin rodriguez. tough kid, long right hand and a bit wild. not very versatile.

other than mike jones. my favorite prospects at welterweight are keith thurman and diego chaves.

I didn't catch that fight but have seen him a few times before and liked what I have seen.

He improves after every fight I have noticed, its what you want to see in a prospect like him.
