    Rigondeaux vs. Caballero. Rumors swirling!!!!

This is an older article that Pump posted....

Guillermo Rigondeaux on The Fast Track To Caballero

    Posted by: Rick Reeno.

    By Rick Reeno

BoxingScene.com has been informed that two-time Olympic gold medal winner Guillermo Rigondeaux (4-0, 3KOs) is on the fast track to a shot at WBA/IBF super bantamweight champion Celestino Caballero (33-2, 23KOs). I've heard his team is interested in going after Caballero by mid-2010.

Rigondeaux is regarded as one of the best amateur fighters in history. The statistical details jump around but he only lost four to five amateur fights, while winning hundreds more against the best fighters in the world.

There are several reasons for Rigondeaux being fast tracked. He had a late start in pro ranks. Rigondeaux is 29-years-old and turns 30 in less than a year. His team hooked him up with Freddie Roach, the best trainer money can buy. Rigondeaux is not your average boxer turning pro. With gold medals, world amateur titles and hundreds of amateur wins under his belt - Rigondeaux is more seasoned than most of the fighters in his division.

Cab looked good last night. I still think Rigondeaux slices him up.

Something else I just thought of.

If Roger trains Rigo that means it will be Jeff Mayweather vs. Roger Maywetaher.

      Hah, that's pretty funny.

Not that Caballero isn't good, but I don't think he is on Rigondeux's level.

Caballero and Rigondeaux are two of the most dangerous fighters in that weight range. Very different styles, but the type of fighters that can beat literally anyone on any given night.
Pelenchin would give Rigo a lot of counter opportunities, but Rigo has never faced a specimen like Caba. That would be an awesome fight.

caballero was getting caught with left and right hooks from yordan. if you add speed and power of rigondeaux, caballero won't go the distance.

No, thats not really what I meant. Im just saying the dude is tough as hell, and I would say he qualifies as having an iron chin if any boxer does. We havent seen what Rigo's power is like at the elite level yet.
I get your point though, there would be a lot of counter opportunities.

I think you have it confused with amateur level. I like Rigondeux don't get me wrong but its too early to say he is better than a previous #1 guy at 122.

based from what i've seen from rigondeaux, he has some serious pop in his punches, more than what i see from caballero. caballero better better make use of his height if they ever fight.
