He needs to learn how to box.
Cotto, even before Steward, would box Berto's ears off.

Now we have 2 Andre's up for awards for acting. Quintana did look a bit drained, and for someone that once beat P. Williams, he didn't look that good. I think if he was heavier, he would have had more of a chance. I don't like or respect Berto either.

Iceta...lol. The hate just never ends with this guy. He's on auto-hate post-wise.
If this was a prime Cotto, I'd pick him to stop Berto but Cotto has taken enough damage. As for Berto lunging in; thats more due to Quintana being rangy. I don't see him lunging in as much against Cotto.

I think people are mixing a hatred of his style with Berto's actual ability to be effective, call it the John Ruiz syndrome if you will (except that Berto probably has better all around attributes).

Berto is effective with the grappling style and clinching is a part of boxing (even if it is excessive). I am pretty sure Berto can give a lot of guys problems with his current style, even if it can be tough to watch. It depends on who he fights, certain rangy guys would probably beat him but if you can not keep Berto outside of his range he can be effective against most fighters I reckon since he will not let someone work on the inside (Berto is also well conditioned and appears to be quite strong so that is one way to wear a guy down).

Even a prime Cotto-Berto match up is 50-50 to me. Cotto was getting his bell rung by Zab Judah and Berto is ten times better than Judah is I think. I'd slightly lean toward Cotto though.

I hear ya, I too, think these major wars he's been in have taken a toll on him. I don't think he'll ever be as confident as he once was, but i maintain, that Berto really doesn't know how to box. All i saw skill-wise from him was a few jabs, some punching power-(non-skill), and a little bit of defense.

Other than that, I was not impressed at all by him. i saw no seasoned, battle hardened fighter in that fight. I saw a kid, not in control of his emotions, letting his enthusiasm dictate his movements, and whining every time he got tapped in the back of the head. Those were not hard rabbit punches for the most part.

I think he's overated, and would be intimidated if he was put in front of Cotto. You know he'd be scared of Manny, and there's no shame in losing to him, and his other only loss is highly controversial, to a most likely cheater.

He's still got some gas in his tank. But this is all my opinion, and i guess this fight with Foreman will tell us a lot about Miguels abilities and future. I'm really looking forward to seeing what he has left.

I'm glad he got another trainer, but at the same time, as I've said before, am dismayed he's keeping that useless turd Santiago around. He does Cotto no good at all. He needs to kick that whole gang to the curb. There is nothing good for him there.

He needs to surround himself with new people, to re-invent himself, and I would really love to be a fly on the wall to see how Santiago and Steward mesh...with Steward trying to make some positive changes, and Santiago standing around looking useless that he is...what's he going to do, tell Steward he's wrong?

                    Did i mention i don't like Santiago and Co?...l.
