Well, Cotto's strategy was working against PAC (ie: he was pummeling the body, wearing him down; Pac himself said it hurt like hell), but he suffers two flash knockdowns and then decided to run.
His corner did that to him. Had he kept it up, Pac would have lost a lot of zip and speed and would have slowed to a crawl.
Against Margo, Cotto flat-out boxed his face off for 6 rounds. The problem is, his corner never told him to clinch Margo so that he couldn't return fire. All it took was one clean swipe to the nose to bust it open.
Again, his corner gave him no help. So he stuck to a gameplan that was slowly eroding.
The fight with Clottey was just awkward, but Cotto did enough. The headbutt he suffered lead to everything. When people say Cotto looked bad, it's because he was continually wiping blood off of his face from a headbutt. It's the same thing Tyson went through twice against Holyfield.
